Played that "Patch" recently. Absurd. Game is only playable on 800x 600 resolution on Windows 10 (otherwise mouse scroll won't work correctly). Had to download both the rip versions and mount the ISO and also had to copy and paste ISO movies into hard drive folder.

Thoughts on the patch.
AI Mechs being allowed to run forces player to run mix of both long range and short range mechs. Also, AI autotargets mechs correctly which is common sense.
Also, all the weapons seem to have better accuracy and DPS than I originally remember.

Bad things I didn't like?
Basically the whole game just plays on Green difficulty. You will kill Razorbacks in like 3 seconds! Absurd
Doesn't let you buy most of the mechs in the game. Can't even get Blood ASP! Absurd!

Don't even have enough time to capture base on Mission 17 and set up base correctly on the patched game. I've beaten Mission 17 on veteran difficult on the unpatched game and I strongly feel the upatched veteran difficulty on that mission is the proper experience the designers wanted you to have. The unpatched game however inherently expects players to be able to exploit non-run mechanics of the AI mechs. So not sure how you supposed to increase difficulty of the game and allow run mechanics on AI mechs and make that mission work correctly.

Gauss gun still basically useless. Low DPS. Only reason to use them is to use them on nonsense firepower/tonnage ratio mechs like the Highlander. Any proper heat capacity mech gauss rifles make no sense at all.

Still has issue where long tom cannons do not allow pilot to obtain experience/kills.

Patch doesn't do anything to reorganize pilot skill system. Most weapons system skills should be available from regular`rank.

Mission award credits are absurdly low.

Surprised someone else also wanted to play this old gem in 2026 and also came across the unwanted, non-AI related changes from the patch.

I haven't played through the entire game so not sure if there's any bugs with this, but if anyone wants *just* the AI fixes from the patch without any of the (un)balancing changes, unzip the patch into some folder that's *not* the MC2 installation. After that, explore the unzipped directory and you should find a directory 'data/missions/' containing a file corebrain.abx and a 'warriors' folder.
Copy the corebrain.abx and warriors folder into '/data/missions/' directory. This should not overwrite any existing files.

After, just boot up the game, and things should just work. I personally tested things in the first mission by running someone up to the first LRM carrier, run far away, then run someone else up to see if it changed targets (and it does).

Thank you for this! I always assumed MS did a big rebalance patch that I missed due to not being online back in the day and was curious why all the mech loadout grids and weapons were different than what I could remember. Here's hoping someone finally makes a good remaster that doesn't mess with the game too much and makes it playable on modern systems.
