Ye olde’ Beta 2 release includes a lot of interesting things, including a score.xls file which notes how scores are calculated.
Since nobody has bothered to share that anywhere except on an advertising platform, I figured I’d dump its contents here. I’ve named the categories myself, but these are grouped in the spreadsheet already.
I haven’t double-checked these values with manual testing or reverse engineering, so it’s entirely plausible that they aren’t exactly the same as the release version of the game. But maybe they are! You should check it out and report back. Do it you coward.

One interesting note about unit (and possibly other?) scores is that it some aspect of their scoring appears to count even for units in queue but not completed. Quick testing suggests that there may be separate score values for 1) the unit itself and 2) the resource value of the unit, only the latter of which seems to count even when the unit is only queued up but not completed. This basically confirms that the below list is at least incomplete, whether or not the listed values are actually correct or not.
In the screenshot, all players are Chinese and human-controlled. After 5 seconds, each player is given the first tier of library techs, 2000 of each resource, a Barracks, and then:
- Red: 20 Slingers are queued in the Barracks.
- Blue: 20 Bowmen (which are more expensive than Slingers) are queued in the Barracks.
- Purple: 20 Slingers are cheated in.
- Green: 20 Bowmen are cheated in.
This suggests a score difference between:
- owning a unit vs queuing up a unit
- a higher-cost unit and a lower-cost unit
Anyway, onto Beta 2’s score.xls contents:
Units
- 1: Civilian units
- 5: Military units
- 50: Basic nuke [I assume this means the Age VII nuke]
- 100: ICBM nuke
Buildings
- 1: Each building
- 3: Each Tower/Barracks/Stable/etc [this is the exact language it uses; it’s not clear what the exact distinction here is – is this just buildings in the military tab?]
- 15: Each Fort
- 20: Each Small City
- 1: Bonus per building [presumably meaning per building attached via economic radius to this city]
- 40: Each Large City
- 2: Bonus per building
- 80: Each Major City
- 4: Bonus per building
Tech
- 50: Nuclear unit technology
- 25: Missile technology
- 10: Unit upgrade technology
- 25: Other upgrade technology
- 50: Library technology
- 100: Age advance
- 200: Final Jeopardy [this is how the game internally refers to future techs at times, so presumably this is just those e.g., Missile Shield and World Government]
Economy
- 0.005: Resource stockpile [per point of resource]
- Max 50 per resource
- 0.20: Income level
- Max 200 per resource
Wonders
- 25: Wonder point
Combat
- 10: Enemy units killed
- 10: Enemy buildings razed [I am very surprised that unit kills and buildings razed have the same point value]
Misc
- 10: Special resources [I assume this probably means rares actively used, or maybe ruins picked up]
